FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about 3D Mapping:

What is 3D mapping?

3D mapping is a multimedia projection technique that transforms any objects or buildings into 3D screens. Special media servers and software are used to match animations to the surface shape.

How long does it take to prepare a mapping show?

Preparation time depends on the project scale. Smaller, 2-3 minute shows can be ready in 3-4 weeks, while more complex ones may require several months of work.

What surfaces can mapping be performed on?

Mapping can be performed on almost any surface - from a restaurant table to entire buildings dozens of meters wide. Building facades, interiors, theatrical scenography, and even cars are most commonly used. We often do shows on dozens of buildings simultaneously.

Can mapping be done in daylight?

Generally, video projection won't be visible in sunlight. For outdoor shows, the effect is definitely best after dark. However, indoor shows can be done during the day - we then use higher-power projectors and appropriately adjust the animation content.

Do I need special permission for a mapping show?

Depending on the location and scale of the event, certain permits may be required. Our team will help obtain all necessary approvals. You definitely need the building owner's permission to display a video show on it. Additionally, permission to set up projection equipment in front of the building might be needed if the area belongs to someone else.

How much does a mapping show cost?

The price of 3D mapping depends on many factors, such as projection surface size, content duration, animation complexity, what's included in the animation script, whether the animation includes characters or frame-by-frame facial animation, etc. We estimate all this in the first stage of work, so we invite you to use our pricing form, which facilitates cost estimation and allows us to prepare a quick and accurate cost estimate.

What's the difference between 3D mapping and video mapping?

These terms are often used interchangeably. 3D mapping typically refers to projections on three-dimensional objects, while video mapping can also include projections on flat surfaces.

What are the most popular applications of mapping?

Mapping is frequently used during cultural events, concerts, fashion shows, product launches, as well as in outdoor advertising and architecture.

Do I need a special screen for mapping?

No, this is the unique feature of mapping - it can be done on existing surfaces, such as buildings, scenography, or even vehicles.

How long can a mapping show last?

The length of the show depends on client needs. It can be a short 3-4 minute presentation or an all-night spectacle. Typical shows last from 4 to 8 minutes.

How long has MediaCraft been in the mapping industry?

MediaCraft has been operating since 2010, performing shows both in Poland and abroad in countries such as China, Japan, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, and other European Union countries.

What are the latest trends in mapping?

Currently popular are interactive mappings where viewers can influence the projection, and the combination of mapping with augmented reality (AR) technology. We offer all these forms of immersive shows.

What does the mapping project creation process look like?

The process includes: client consultation, concept creation, graphics and animation design, object mapping, on-site testing, and final show execution.

Is it possible to create mapping on unusual surfaces, e.g., on water or dome surfaces (DOME PROJECTION)?

Yes, our company uses advanced techniques enabling mapping on unusual surfaces, including water curtains or dome surfaces. We can set up spherical dome screens on any terrain, giving an effect similar to a "planetarium". We can also utilize existing domes in architecture - commonly found in historical monuments.
