Animitto: Fusion of Dance and 3D Projection Mapping
A video from a multimedia spectacle in which the dancer's movement interacts with virtual scenography.

The film presents a unique combination of projection on the horizon screen (14x8m) and on the stage floor. Animitto is the result of collaboration between the choreographer, dancer, and the animation team, creating an illusion of depth and interaction with digital scenography.

Stage Illusion:
Horizon & Floor Surfaces

The defining feature of the "Animitto" spectacle is the use of projection on the horizontal screen and also on a special reflective floor. Both surfaces had identical dimensions (14m x 8m), creating an immersive projection perspective (Cube projection illusion).

The key to immersion was precise stage lighting. We needed to illuminate the dancer so they remained visible to the audience without “killing” the projection — enabling believable illusion such as holes in the floor or deep perspective (Infinity Space) extending beyond the screen.

MediaCraft handled the complete production: artistic concept, content, projection hardware, dancer coordination, and multimedia direction.

Interaction of Motion and Light

"The 3D scenography was built live on site, creating the illusion of objects appearing at the very center of the stage."

Synergy of Choreography and Image

"Animitto" is the result of close collaboration between the choreographer and the 3D graphics team. The goal was to blur the line between dancer and stage backdrop — creating the impression that the dancer directly influences the audiovisual content (reactive visuals), and vice versa.

The composition was designed to blend the surfaces seamlessly. The scale of projection doesn’t overwhelm but enhances the dancer’s silhouette, extending their expression beyond the physical body onto the massive horizon screen.
