3D Projection Mapping 362 Meters Wide: Velana Airport, Maldives
Video of a spectacular event of the grand opening ceremony of the new passenger terminal. The show was visible from neighboring islands of the archipelago.

Turnkey production of the largest multimedia show in the history of the Maldives. 20 projectors of 32,000 lumens each, Disguise media server system, and extreme weather conditions. See how MediaCraft transformed the facade of the new airport into a work of art.

Engineering in Paradise:
Comprehensive Videomapping Production

The project for Velana International Airport defines a fully "turnkey" service. MediaCraft not only delivered content but took full responsibility for technical infrastructure, air logistics, and fiber obtic signal distribution for this large-scale event.

The task: create a spectacle visible not only from the airport grounds but also from neighboring islands and even from flying planes. With a facade of 362 meters wide, the scale required military-level precision.

The production took place in extreme tropical conditions – high humidity, salt exposure, and monsoon rain risk. Dedicated cyclone-resistant projection towers were built to protect one of the world's most advanced projection systems.

Scope of Work:

  • 20x 32,000 ANSI Lumen Projectors
  • Content Production (3-min high-end)
  • Merging 20 projectors into one seamless image
  • Disguise Media Server Systems
  • Signal distribution (fiber optic)
  • Several hundred meters of cabling

"Guests booked hotels on neighboring islands just to have a good view of the spectacle."

The Heart of the System: Disguise Technology

At this scale, there is no room for error. That’s why we used Disguise (formerly D3) media servers with a full backup chain (Main + Backup) as the control center.

Why Disguise? It’s the industry standard used at the Olympic Games and U2 concerts. It allowed us to:

  • Simulate the entire show in 3D before even arriving in the Maldives.
  • Execute advanced Warping and Edge Blending on the irregular 362-meter facade designed by SETec and 1PAX Architects.
  • Synchronize all 20 projectors with a single frame precision using fiber-optic connections.

Project Parameters

  • Location: Male, Maldives
  • Projection Width: 362 meters
  • Total Projection Power: 640,000 ANSI Lumen
  • Setup & Rehearsal: 7 Days (Express)
  • Event Date: 26 July 2025
